“Промінь” means “Ray” in Ukrainian.
It is fascinating and amazing how a poet or a writer can invent the word and integrate it into the language, like a musician generates the sound. The author of the word “промінь” is Lesya Ukrainka – Ukrainian poetess, she introduced this word into the Ukrainian language by the end of the 19th century. This word is a neologism, yet Ukrainians use it everywhere every day, as a scientific term in geometry, quantum mechanics and optics. “Променіти” – to shine with inner light.
